Site Downloader.Installation.Download the Site Downloader archive. Unzip it in the directory where you want this program to resign. When specifying options in your Winzip software, make sure that all subdirectories (subfolders) are restored. Usually it is the default setting for the WinZip. Installation is complete. Uninstallation.Delete the folder containing the Site Downloader files. RegistrationIf you choose to register the Site Downloader software, you will need to enter the password (provided after the registration) into the registration prompt. Getting started.
Run the SiteDownloader.exe and click the "Run" icon on the toolbar, or select "Run" from the menu. The Settings dialog will appear. Here you may specify the URL of the main file of the site you want to download, the target folder (sub-folders will be created automatically) and some additional options. First, you may choose the files that have to be searched for additional links. For example, if you begin downloading from index.html, and this file contains only one link to next.htm, then two files will be downloaded: index and next. However if next.htm contains a link to last.htm, we need to search the next.htm and to add last.htm to the list of files to download. Second, you have an option to choose what types of files to download. For example, you may want to turn off downloading of the images to save time. Press OK and wait while the Site Downloader is downloading the Web site to your local computer. The "Stop after each step" checkbox deserves a separate consideration. It gives you more control, and can signifficantly reduce downloading time. Let's have an example. Say, you have found a web site with the following structure (this is not an imaginary case, there are many image galleries that use this approach): main page pics dir1 dir2 ... pages dir1 dir1 ... The HTML pages in subdirectories of "pages" directory are pointing to JPEG images in subdirectories of "pics" directory. Say, you only want pictures from "pics/dir1". Can you specify "pages/dir1" as a root directory, so that the Site Downloader scan all the links and then download images? No, because "pages" is not a root directory for "pics". To download the images you need to start with the root directory, which is the one ABOVE both "pics" and "pages". You can do it, of course, but this way you will get images from all subdirectories, and all pages will be scanned as well, while you only need pictures from dir1. Not from dir2 ... dir100. The solution is to set a checkmark to the "Stop after each step" checkbox. After the first page (main page, in our example) is processed, the list of all links found on this page will be saved to a text file, the program will stop and ask you to edit this file, removing the links to pages and images you do not need. Then you click OK, and downloading will continue, only links you want will be processed. Same will repeat on the step 2 and so on. The last checkbox, called "do not download if file exists", can be used to CONTINUE downloading that was for some reason interrupted. Sometimes, it can be power interruption, or your Internet connection disappeared, or your computer restarted. If the site you was downloading, is large, you would like to continue downloading from the place you stopped, rather then from the very beginning. To do so, you need: a) find and delete the last file downloaded (as the downloading was interrupted, it is probably corrupted). And b) start the program with the checkmark set. File(s) that are already on your hard drive, will not be downloaded from the Internet. That's it! You officially graduated and are now qualified to use the Site Downloader program. Congratulations!
